Where do I go? Who do I trust? Jesus says, the answer is in the fruit.
Fruit is the end result. Not doctrine, not feelings, not even miracles or power. All of those things can be faked. The only thing we are told to judge by is fruit. A good tree produces good fruit, bad trees produce bad fruit. Simple!
But what is this fruit? Scripture reveals elsewhere more clearly… Love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, these are fruit. Becoming like a holy God is fruit. The fruit changes the heart, for better or for worse. That is where we are to look.
False gospels, false teachings, false prophets do not produce a positive change in the heart. They can’t! Only the Holy Ghost can change a heart, not words, not doctrine. Only the action of the hand of God. If God is not in the teaching, no positive heart change is possible. Man cannot fix man! Ever!
Don’t look at the size of the crowds, look at the heart of the crowds.
Don’t look at the emotions of the followers, look at their actions.
Don’t look at the miracles, look at the progress towards holiness.
Don’t look on Sunday, look on Friday night!
Falsehoods always look great! They are well packaged, filled with mostly truth. They feel good, and draw you in through emotions or intellectual teasing. False is always appealing! But Jesus warns, put all of that aside and look at the fruit.
The fruit will heal you or kill you.
Choose wisely.
